OD solenoid backing plate

The ear that the solenoid plunger adjusts to is broken off. I'm looking to replace the plate. I'm assuming there is tranny oil behind that plate. Drain, replace part, and refill? Any other tips? 1955 100 if that makes a difference.

There is a small oil seal on the operating shaft that rotates when the solenoid is energised. The seal can leak so this would be a good time to replace the lip seal.

Any good belts n bearing shop should be able to match it . It's just a regular lip seal .
