Just got the gearbox/OD back together after a complete overhaul and it is maintaining 350psi on the electric drill in 3rd with 15/40 engine oil. The OD shifts nicely but rather slowly, probably about 2-3 seconds accompanied by a momentary drop in pressure to ~200 psi.Jobs for tomorrow are rechecking the non return valve and spring and shimming the pressure spring to find the missing psi.

What is anyone's experience changing to the 'competition' aka Triumph accumulator? Does it make the OD too vicious or more fun? Not actually interested in racing the car, just curious.

The TR spring looks like it could support the front end of a 1953 Buick, compared to the Healey/MG springs that look like they came off a 61 Corvair...
 
You will think yu get hit in the rearevery time it shifts lots if shock on the tranny.--Keoke
 
I had experience with using MGB standard OD in my race prepared MGB. I used OD in 2nd and 3rd and 4th. It gave me a 7 speed trans. It worked great until a cold morning when I shifted into 2nd OD and snapped a shaft in the gearbox. The oil was cold and thick. I would never recommend a hard shifting OD in any car.
 
I have a competition accumulator. When I was using 30 Wt oil in my trans/OD, I would have to let off the throttle or use the clutch to keep from snapping my head off. Now that I'm using 50 wt, it's more gentle, but still immediate.

For a road car the guy took it out of gear before engaging/disengaging the overdrive to make a more comfortable drive.

We had this set up in our 100M race car. While it did work well, in the end our machinist felt it cause to much stress on the crank and other bits. At that time we were runnning a stock crank (not billet), now we have a Moldex crank. However have gone back to stock set up. We would like to sell the standard crank (has been magnifluxed, all ok), PM me if you are interested.
