Ochre interior availability?

In looking at all the reproduction interior kits I have yet to see ochre available. Is it that bad? Aged mine looks kind of golden. So get a biscuit interior and paint it?
I'm still confused about the carpet. It looks original (black). But, could have been switched out. Only info I see so far is quotes from Grahame Bristow "restoring sprites and midgets". States in a note "with black tulip paint ", carpet was same color as autum leaf, biege leather clothe was used to trim carpet.
Does that mean piping was different color than carpet? Or more importantly, does anybody make an interior kit in "OCHRE"?

Depending on the year of the car, and if there were any heat molded lines in the panel, it would be REALLY easy to recover the panels with a vinyl of your choice... They are are flat and none of them are really big.

I would NOT use any type of dye. No matter how good it says it is, you will eventually have issues (unless you are throwing a car together to flip it..).

There was mention of a girl on here that could sew seat covers. Maybe buy enough vinyl to wrap the panels and cover the seats?

Just throwing ideas out there for you...

Ochre was available only between August '72 and August '73. This according to Horler (who wrote the bible on these cars.) I have never heard of an Ochre kit being available.

Ironically, my car is an april of 73 production date. And my daughter who is 7 and claimed the car as her own. Has her birthday in April a strange coincidence.
I figure the low production time will make it hard to find the correct color interior. But, hope springs eternal.... Doesn't it?

RaserX, if you have a sample of the vinyl in the correct color, you could visit a local upholstery shop and flip through their books and probably find a match..

I haven't seen ochre available either, however Victoria British has your seat covers in Autumn Leaf on sale.

Ochre replaced Autumn Leaf in 1972 then Autumn Leaf returned in 1973 replacing ochre.

The company that was making the Ochre material is no longer in business. We (and our vendors) are looking for a suitable replacement, but the outlook is not promising.

Even with a rare colour, there really is no value added for originality. I can't see if your seats are torn or just need to be cleaned up, but, you can

1. get custom made: expensive

2. replace with existing stock: change the colour

3. clean up and drive.

More than the seats, the carpet almost always needs replacing. Stock Interiors has a wider variety of colours than pretty much anyone (at a god price point). The colours gold or buckskin or saddle might work. FWIW my Midget ('76) had an all black interior. I replaced the carpet with red and have had a lot of compliments. It just brightened everything up.

Hey Matt,
Thanks for the info. I appreciate the effort.

As for the color, I'm really wanting to go back to stock, even if it's a bit of a pain. Of course if it's. NOT available it's not available.

My seat covers are not in too bad of shape except that they literally have spray paint on them from where PPO tried to change parts of interior color (door panels?). That's why I wondering if the car came with different color carpet ( black) , than door panels ( ochre).

I see why you are getting compliments... Nice clean contrast ing colors.

I've always thought the ochre color to be dirty "mcDonald's" yellow. Not very much like a color found in nature. I can understand why it was not used very long and why it is not in reproduction. Sorry.

Not a bad : dirty mcdonalds mustard yellow... Lol

Still I prefer stock if I can get it. sonfar none of those samples look close thanks for trying

That "Margarita" -nuvtex color might be close.

(By the way, several years ago I parted out a car with ochre interior)

Parted out!?!? How could you not know I would need it in the future? Lol

Thanks for the links. Couple of those colors look close. I ll have to look after I get off work

Honestly, the interior was the last thing I imagined someone wanting. It was pretty torn up anyway.

Great link. Thanks. They list an ochre trim kit. But, in checkout it comes up with no price. I'll email them and find out what the deal is. Anybody order from them? Shipping time outrageous?

It's actually a paint. Years ago I used Mar-Hyde on motorcycle seats with excellent results. Sadly, they have changed the formula. It was great stuff. If you had a run, you could wipe it off with your finger then shoot back over it. There would be no sign of a mishap.

JP, I had no idea you had red carpet.
