o-ring in Hub on BN4

I am replacing the rear axle seal in my BN4. I am having trouble fitting the o-ring in the hub groove. The o-ring I received in the parts is a little too small for the groove - it stretches easily to fit, however will have to be glued in place for assembly - is this correct or should I source a better fitting o-ring. o-

Spikester,
Assuming the O ring is the correct one, you can try and use some thick grease, by carefully filling the groove, and then seeing if the O ring will stay in the groove. There is a product I use called Ultra Chem. It comes in a tube and is the consistancy of very sticky honey. It is compatable with all O rings and works well in this sort of application. A tube woud last you 3 lifetimes. Not comfortable with using glue, but used sparingly it might work fine.

Hello Spikester,

If you have to stretch the "O" ring it is the wrong size and will break soon enough.

If you have a bearing supply place locally you could take the hub to them and ask them for an "O" ring, I've done that before.

Then you will know it fits right.

I bought this o-ring from Moss and it fit perfectly with no stretching. Hylomar or grease will hold it in no problem.

Had previously bought the same diameter o-ring from a hardware store, but the section was not large enough for it to protrude beyond the groove when installed.

I notice you are NOT exactly in a<span style="color: #990000"><span style="font-weight: bold">"warm"</span></span> temperate zone.

Try putting the O ring in your armpit for 4 - 5 mts to let it "soften" up and then try it.
