NXT Update [very graphic]

I showed some small areas of the MGB I did with NXT in a recent thread...finally finished polishing the luggage rack, remounted it, finished the car, and got a chance to take pictures.

Some notes:

NXT: I applied one thin coat of NXT with a foam applicator, by hand - let it dry about 20 minutes or so - and wiped off with a cotton towel. I went back about 48 hours later with another coat.

TIRES: I cleaned the tires with 303 Vinyl Cleaner, followed a day later with a coat of 303 Aerospace Protectant applied with a small sponge applicator. I spread a light coat around the tire and let it sit to air-dry (two days before I took these pictures). More pictures on Autopia

I checked out quite a few internet references (opinions) on NXT. The consensus seems to be that NXT does not hold up as well as some of the others under extreme weather conditions - sunlight, rain, etc.

Since my car leads a sheltered life, this is not an important consideration. Ease of application & shine ARE important & NXT delivers.

Same here Dave...but then again I put it on the hood of my Miata and it's been holding up pretty well.

I'm not sure that MG could be any shinier! I especially like the painted rubber bumpers.

There are plenty of good car care products out there and it's very hard to pick the best.

Since last summer, I discovered "One Grand Blitz Wax", a carnauba wax product. It outshines anything I've seen, stays on for a very long time and resists bird droppings, a big problem in my yard.

For tires and rubber, I use One Grand Exterior Rubber & Vinyl (E.R.V.) dressing. I don't like the shiny/"wet" tire look, but like to keep the tires looking new. This stuff is flat out the best I've ever seen, seems to last forever before needing a re-application. It's also great for interior vinyl and engine hoses, etc. Again, it doesn't make stuff look abnornally shiny, just clean and original like new. It also provides UV protection.

I use 3-M Imperial Hand glaze for older paint that needs conditioning before waxing. It removes light scratches like magic.

What do the rest of you use?

Thanks - I have 3M Imperial Hand Glaze also - very similar to Meguiar's #7 Show Car Glaze. Not sure which is "better".

I've had a lot of luck using 3M's Swirl Remover (can't remember the number) with a large foam applicator. Certainly isn't the same as using an electric tool, but small scratches will come out (not hide) with a little bit of effort.

I'm inclined to try Pinnacle Souvarin or something else next time just to see how it works. PS, P21, Klasse, etc, all have a good following.

Just to passify Basil a bit - the Corvette still gets Zainoed - and I still think Zaino Z6 is one of the best detailing sprays, whether using Zaino, NXT, or wax
