NUTS! [refinishing Aluminium ones....]

The wheel nuts on my jensen-Healey are aluminium alloy. Formerly black... now corroded (some) and look like rubbish with my new, powder coated wheels and restored wheel centers....

Powder coating and/or painting them doesn't seem very likely to last...

Anodizing? or what????

Suggestions?

Ideas?

I've got the same situation coming up. My plan was to clean them up, and then coat them with Por-15 and Chassis coat. The combination makes a pretty strong paint covering.

yah, they are wierd nuts.

Based on weight they're heavy in aluminum.

They actually resemble modern nuts like the ones on my explorer

I've got the POR-15 and could do that and see how it turns out.

It's good that if it doesn't work the nuts themseleves wouldn't be damaged/affected by the paint...

James, If you only have POR15 you'll need something else to cover it, as it breaks down under UV light.

New ones are £5 each... and aluminium colored. Replacing just one isn't an option and the whole set would be extortionate and wouldn't look right.

I bought 13 used ones for £5 on e-bay but they're not right (or perfect) either. I've an early J-H and its wheel nuts have a small "J" moulded into the surface. They look nice, different from the other J-Hs I've seen. Someone told me those were from the Interceptors....

I've thought about trying to find someone somewhere that might anodize them black, but thought I'd ask here....

Just have to clean them up a little, then prime and paint them.
