I know this sounds really dumb, but is #1 cyclinder the closest to the front of the car (my 1800 cc engine)? I know the firing order is 1,3,4,2. Thanks for any response.

1 at the front and then 2, then 3, and 4 is closest to firewall. You have the firing order correct.

At least this is how our MGB is set up.

Speaking of the numbering of clyinders...how is it done in the Mini's "Lump"? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif The passengers side or the driver's side?

Hello Brad,

number one on a mini is the nearest to the radiator. Basically, most manufacturers number from the front (non drive end) of the engine. Jaguar are (or at least were) different and number one is nearest to the flywheel.

As stated above, on A- and B-series engines #1 is closest to the "pulleys" on the engine. Remember on both these engine types, the firing order is as mentioned 1-3-4-2 AND the distibutors (and thus plug wire numbering) go COUNTERCLOCKWISE.
