NSU cars racing in late 1960's?

I spotted a couple of what I thought were NSU Prinz shells in an auto yard. I remember seeing one or two of these racing at Mosport when I was a young racing fan back in the day. The pics on the Net I was able to find are of Prinzs that look much like the early BMW 2002's. The ones in the yard have a more pointed front and a fast back type rear? Those were the ones I remember.Anyone know the model I'm refering to?

There are images of several different models including a Wankel spyder.

The BMW and NSU syling with the high "beltline" was derived from the original Corvairs--amazing how strong an effect that car had in Europe though it flopped over here.

Yes...I have also heard Michael's story about the "Corvair influence".

A friend's Dad used to sell NSUs in New Egypt, NJ. His business went bust and there was about 10 of these things sitting at thier shop for years (sadly, all junked, I think).

I always liked the rotary Spiders, but the Sport Prinz coupes also came with an OHC twin.
When I was about 14, I had an NSU moped.

The Sport Prinz Coupe ... yes, those are the ones I saw in the auto yard. Someone is restoring them as the shells have been sanded down. I'm going to go back and have a chat with the owner just out of curiosity. Maybe he's restoring them because of high gas prices and wants a little runabout? They probably didnt sell well because I dont think they had much HP. I dont know what class the Prinz Coupe I saw raced in back in the day at Mosport but it was always running at the back of the pack and sreaming at high revs LOL...maybe an early Wankel?
