Out of my league but, were it me, I'd correct that switch problem also.

Makes sense to me. Nothing is guaranteed though!
 
I know it's on the list and I have a new switch. I was actually scheduled to swap it out on Saturday but now I am not sure what to do.

The switch problem and the slipping are two different problems. I know the switch causes me not to do into OD.

The slipping has an unknown cause at this point.
 
In speaking with both John Twist and John Esposito, my first approach might be changing out the 5 "O" rings around the Oil Pressure relief valve and the solenoid. When these go bad, the transmission will act like it wants to go into OD - in any gear. John also recommended draining the fluid and replacing with 30wt non-detergent.

Worst case is the clutches in the trans are bad. When I get the strainer out of the bottom, I will be able to tell if there is a lot of blackish sludge down there.
 
Still does not explain the switch issue. I'd replace that regardless. Most issues are electrical, followed by hydraulic, followed by mechanical.

Not looking forward to the switch swap but I'll do what I can.

John Twist told me that 95% of OD problems are something very simple. These "O" rings will be a cheap way in terms of parts and labor. Esposito told me when I pull the cover to look for black sludge. If I have this it might be the expensive repair and my clutches have gone south.

It certainly can't hurt to replace the switch/o-rings, but it sounds like your problem is mechanical from your description.

John @ Quantum knows his stuff. So does Twist. I've met both a few times over the years and value their advice.
