On this date in Dallas, a husband and father was killed by an ego-centered misfit.

I was in ninth grade social studies class and listened to the event unfold on the radio.

Where were you?

Tom

7th grade. An "unscheduled" recess, teacher Myron Petruska sat down beside me on a curb in the parking lot and told me. Funny, he was always a straightforward guy, never condescending. We talked about what could be coming next. Kept in touch with him for many years after.

Going on a senior field trip with the class. We all cried when it came on the AM radio.

My eighth grade math teacher, Mr. Scirappa told us. He was devastated.

School was let out early and on the way home, I noticed our bus driver was crying.

I just signed a form for a student a few minutes ago, which was when I realized what date it was.

I was walking across the quadrangle at Northeastern University in Boston when I heard what happened.

I also remember watching Oswald get shot on live TV that Sunday morning.

Edit: Here's a newsreel of Oswald getting shot.

8th grade - Cullen Jr. High in Corpus Christi.

History class, (how ironic).
My teacher, Mr. Davis, was a very stoic man. Only time I ever saw a crack in his character, he cried at the news.
6 years later, my oldest son was born, to the day.
Strange how life mixes everything together.

My mother was visiting a friend in hospital (Fort Worth) on 11/22/63. When a nurse ran by saying "Kennedy has been shot in Dallas!", an idiot outside the hospital room yelled "three cheers for Dallas."

Even tho' our family were all Republicans, my mom got real angry, stuck her head out the door, and yelled "That man was a husband and father, and now his wife and children are alone."

Sitting in the Day Room at Plattsburgh AFB. Stunned disbelief! :frown:

2nd grade at East View Elementary School in White Plains NY. My teacher started crying and had to leave the room.I was only 7 years old ,but after watching my parents glued to the TV during the Cuban missle crisis I knew this was very bad stuff. Amazing how this country has sunk to the level of where it is today.I dont even recognize it any more. I made me the political animal Iam today

14 days from entering this mortal coil.

Couple of long-haired, maggot infested, dope smoking, tie-dyed t-shirt types sitting near me ; but that would have gotten me kicked out of ROTC.

O.k, what are guys like that doing in ROTC?

Learned about it in elementary school. Thought that my pop would be happy about it as he detested the President. Boy was I wrong on that one.

5th Grade, I was a "Sergeant" on the school Safety Patrol (we manned road crossings near school, like a crossing guard). The principal called the entire Safety Patrol Corps into the cafeteria and said school was letting out early today and we were to go back to class for an "important" announcement, then immediately to our posts. We were stunned, had no idea what was to come.

My teacher entered the classroom and it was obvious that she'd been crying. She gave us the news, told us to go home. Some of the girls became very upset.

Somber scene at my street crossing post. Everyone was quiet, no shenanigans as usual. Very strange.

When I got home, Mom and a friend were sobbing in front of the TV. When Dad got home, he was noticably shaken. I'll never forget the image of the normally stoical Walter Cronkeit breaking down upon his announcement of the killing. A dark day for our great country, for sure.

My Dad loved and idolized JFK. Dad, like JFK, was a WWII Navy combat Vet and admired JFK's military service. Dad was thrilled when Kennedy was elected Pres.

What a tragedy. I'll never forget.

Wow.
