Not so smart thief

Ah. Florida.

I've got a good one. I'll try to summarize the best I can:

This guy goes into a local Pizza joint called (no joke) "Goomba's" to pick up an order, about 15 minutes away from here. He gets home and his order isn't right so calls to complain and is told to come back the next day. He goes back, expecting a refund when he (the customer) and the owner of the Pizza place get into an argument, then the owner jumps over the counter with a gun and beats the customer with it.

The customer leaves and goes to hospital, the local police are called, they investigate, and the customer plans to sue the owner of the pizza joint.

Turns out the owner was part of a crime "family" from Brooklyn NY and is in the witness protection program after testifying about murders in NYC. So naturally he opens a pizza place called "Goomba's" in Florida.

The customer? Turns out he'd been living under his wife's ex-husbands identity.

It's just a constant soap opera

That's like the story about Lance Armstrongs bike that was stolen. He got it back because it was so recognizable that the thiefs coulden't sell it.
People are stupid....

I dunno....I kinda feel sorry for the guy who stole the car. Clearly he is a former NASA Engineer who must have been let go due to the current economy....this did take place in Florida after all and this guy is OBVIOUSLY a rocket scientist!! Who else would be brilliant enough to stash a stolen car in a stolen house!! LOL

My favorite "dumb crook" story was on the news in Germany a couple years ago. This sounds like an urban legend, but it's quite real.

A woman in the Bonn train station was getting her picture taken in a self-serve photo booth. Her purse was hanging on a shoulder strap. A bag snatcher saw this, figured it would be an easy grab, so he tried for it. The woman held on tight though, and in the struggle, the guy was pulled into the booth.

I think you can guess the rest.

Camera went off, the thief realized what had happened, and took off running. A couple minutes later, after a crowd had gathered and the police arrived, the booth produced a perfect profile photo of the guy.

He was caught about four hours later.

We had one a couple years ago held up a fast food joint. Came back the next day for lunch, didn't think they'd recognize him. he got lunch, and a nice county owned ride out of the place.

They get even smarter than that, I was on jury duty years back and got picked as an alternate on a trial where the defendant was accused of holding up the fast food joint where he worked.

guy behind counter: “Hi Bob, how’s you day off going?”

brilliant criminal: “This is a stick up...”
