Well, when the goldfish die, they don't have far to go, do they?

OH, and that reminds me: THEY FOUND NEMO!

"Watch that first step; it's a LULU!"

I don't know how much truth there is to this - my dad, always the tall tale teller told me this - but supposedly way back when, farm houses would be built with a door on the second floor that opened to the outside but no stairs, etc. because it saved on taxes. When the tax man came around to assess the house, the homeowner could say "it's not finished yet..." and play less taxes. Perhaps the bulding owner above grew up in such a farm house?! Again, I don't know if that is true or not about the farm houses......

In the snow belt of the UP, almoest every house has a door on the second floor for when the snow gets a little deep.

Hey look, I have the matching sink!

This door is several feet above ground... from the outside:

Exterior Photo

There's a reconstruction of John Rennie MacKintosh's House inside the buildiing with furniture, etc., all laid out as it was and the floor plan includes the front door; though the first step would be a doozy....

Keeps door-to-door salesmen away!

I think the housebuilders were just trying to emulate Mrs. Winchester's housebuilding. The one out in San Jose....
Anyone ever been to that one?

Yep...house that was never finished...windows that opened to walls, doors that didn't go anywhere, stairways to nothing....she was trying to exorcise the ghosts of people killed by Winchester guns, if I remember correctly.

Yes the Winchester home is a very interesting tour.
I would recommend it to anyone going close to San Jose

Been there. They give special night tours (flashlights only) on every Friday the 13th and Halloween. Spooky but so fun!

I believe there is such a law in Mexico. That's why every building has exposed re-bar on the roof.
