Is it just me or is it pretty rare to have a Himicain start up off the coast of the US?

They went with both a while ago, Don. "Andrew" killed 15 in Florida in 1992. We hope Arthur is more benign.

Unless I don't understand your answer...
I meant having a storm start off the coast of the US instead of coming off the coast of Africa.

Well I guess they start in the Gulf but for some reason don't remember one starting off the east coast of Florida

Gulf Stream is the "generator" for most of 'em, they usually amp up once hitting that. Hopefully this one is a "late start."
