Not my son, but proud of him anyways.

He's terrified of heights!
As unnerved by heights as I am, I'm proud of myself for once (back in the 90's) rappelling down the wall of the Snake River canyon, not far from where Evil Knevil attempted his famous jet bike jump. By BIL was a rappelling trainer for all the search and rescue guys in Idaho and he taught me. First we went to a little pile of rocks to learn the basics, then when he felt I had it down sufficienly we drove out to the Snake Rive and rappelled down a sheer cliff. Maybe because I was always looking at the wall face it didn't bother me as much as I thought it would. I managed to do it 3 or 4 times.

A friend of mine is a retired American Airlines pilot. Retired after 30 years - started flying in the USN, then moved to American Airlines in 1954 with DC-6s, and retired as a 747 pilot. Great guy.
