could definatly buy an original Tiger that needs restoration for that, then at least you'd have an original one not an Alpine wannabe.

I think it's a good thing to keep these cars mostly original, but with the crazy pricing on original Tigers nowadays, I wouldn't hesitate to clone an Alpine into a Tiger.
Very carefully, of course, retaining as many Alpine parts as poss.
Why? Nice Alpines can be had for $10-$15K. Nice Tigers are way up in the thirties and forties, with no end in sight.
That's a big diff.
