Northwest Classic Rally

Just got back Sunday night from the Northwest Classic Rally, a two-day rally based out of Portland, Oregon, and organized by the local Alfa Romeo club for sporting cars made in 1974 and earlier.

Drove my 100 (see photo below) and finished 6th in a field of 53, with the following glitches:

-- One wire to the coil came loose and caused extremely rough-running. I love easy fixes such as tightening a screw! I am also getting some vintage coils bench-tested and will install a good one, with the correct connectors, when I get them back. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

-- Had a significant oil leak when the oil filter canister gasket broke. Yes, the rubber ring that you stuff into the recess on the manifold actually split. All we had to do was add oil frequently, but it sure made a mess out of the underside of my otherwise spotless car -- argh! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

-- Had a flat tire. This is about the 4th or 5th one with these wheels. I'm beginning to wonder, and have asked the shop to carefully check for sharp edges and such where the inner tube contacts the wheel. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Best of all -- in the Irony Department -- after having my speedo rebuilt by a shop whose name you would know (and then having to send it back to them after it arrived stuck on 50 MPH, and then having to send it back again after it jammed at 55 MPH after doing maybe 25 miles, and then getting a cable "repaired/modified" by the same shop that would not insert into the right angle drive far enough to be driven and having to fish the original cable out of the trash), the odometer jammed and the reset handle broke off on the morning of the first day! However, this was our best finish in four years on this rally, so maybe it's better without the odometer working anyway. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

It's always something... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazyeyes.gif

Hi Reid, filter parts prolly from them mossy guys via Taiwan.

Inner tube should not contact rim must have Rim Bands.

Those inner tubes should be Clasicos from Moss.

Next time you need a guage fixed try Nisongner or Moma

Other than the lil things it sounds like a good time. Any more pics? I miss Oregon. I moved out in 87 and have not been back. I used to ride the Rose City Motorcycle Clubs "500" each May. It was a gas on my Norton. You would get a section of map every 100 miles or so and never know where you were going til ya got there. Route changed every year.
