Anyone know what the registration fees cover at the 2006 event. Seems to me the fees are extremely high just for a car show. Once every five years or not. I've tried e-mailing the people in charge, but get no response from them. Seems like all they want is my money. PJ /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Paul,

I agree at first blush, it seem like a lot of money for just a car show, but you need to think of MG 2006 as being 4 days of fun and activities and not just one afternoon at the park.

We must reserve space for the numerous Tech Sessions, BBQ on Wednesday night, the Car Show (reserved for two separate days, just in case it rains), and the Awards / Banquet on Saturday night (I ordered the N’awlins dinner) at the Convention Center.

There are printing costs for the programs, windshield cars, self-guided tours, etc.

On the plus side, once the expenses are paid, there will be a donation to a local charity and a donation to the local car club that is helping run this event.

We did structure the event so members of the five participating registers did receive a discount. Joining NAMGBR will save the participants $15 dollars or half the yearly dues. You will then get the MGB Driver magazine for a year if you join the B Register.

Paul, this event has been years in the making. I fact, planning for MG 2011 will start after MG 2006 is done.

Well Bruce, I just droped 326 green ones to register, barbecue
tickets, tickets for something else, (I'm not sure for what),I think the wife knows, and the wife had to buy some shirts, hats etc. So here I am ready to go. [Note],I always complain about spending money,(Except for the "B")Ha, so please don't take offense.PJ /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/driving.gif

Paul,

No offensive taken, I am in the same boat as well.

My wife and I are leaving Michigan the Thursday before and cruising down to Kennesaw, GA and see some old friends. Sunday, she and I will head up to Townsend, TN for the British V8 event (another hotel and a few more dollars) then on Wednesday we break camp in Townsend and motor to Gatlinburg.

I have been saving money for a while now and have a few bucks saved up. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

PJ,

These are really good questions you are asking. I strongly believe that people have a right to know where their money is going. Bruce mentions that a charity will be benefiting. I don't believe it's out of line to ask what charity and how funds are scheduled to be distributed. I've asked these questions and did not like the answers, so I won't be attending this event. That's just me, I'm not saying that folks should not attend, just that you have a right to know what your registration fees are used for.

Immediate past Chairman of NAMGBR

Paul,

If you have any additional questions, your always free to ask. I have always been honest with the members as well as the members of the other four registers.

Thanks Bruce, I'm in good shape. I do think though, that an informational list should be forthcoming to give people some idea of where thier money is going and what they are getting for it.If not for this show, then for the next one. It's only natural to want to know that. And it's good for public relations. PJ /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/driving.gif

You know, at $75 for a car show that is held only every 5 years, (less if you belong to one of the national groups) it comes down to $15 a year. Not any more than we pay for any shows. Less than a case of beer or Castrol.

You have to look at this as entertainment. We're heading down the weekend before and spending 7 or 8 days in the Gatlinburg area. A 'mini' vacation. We'll probably end up spending well over $1000 between lodging, food, gas, shirts and miscellania.

It really doesn't matter to me what they use the money for. I don't ask what other clubs use the registration money for. I know our show money goes directly into our club's operating fund. Personally, I think it's a fair enough price for 4 days of cars and comaraderie. I'd spend far more than $75 for 4 days of entertainment right here at home!

But then, that's just me.

Yes, you have a point. It's not uncommon for us to spend $70 just to go to dinner at Myrtle Beach. Now that case of beer you mentioned sounds good, but I never use Castrol, never, never. the name always reminds me of the stuff my grandmom gave me when I was a kid, and was bad! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thirsty.gif

Second the bad part.

I didn't quite spend so much but so far I'm only registered for two events. I'll probably sign up for more here in a little bit. It don't remember it being so high when I registered, maybe I should double check!

As far as the $326 goes, deduct the cost of 2 sweat shirts, 2 polo shirts, 2 baseball caps and you'll come closer to the registration & ticket fees. PJ /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
