Non LBC but saw my first Civic Type R Yesterday

Different horses for different courses - as mentioned, I would not want any of the safety (or emission) bits removed - and doubly so for my wife and daughter. Certainly the amenities have added up - seats are heavier/ carpet is thicker/ cars have AC and cruise and all those things - and I wouldn't have it any other way. Yesterday we jumped in the car and drove 500 km (there and back) to spend time with my family. I didn't check the oil, I cranked up the AC. I listened to the radio all the way and when I got stuck in traffic coming home I didn't worry about the car overheating. None of that would have been true 40 years ago - even when the cars were new. I realize the "driving experience" goes right out the window but who cars - it's an interstate with thousands of other drivers - I don't need a driving experience - I just need to arrive home on time, safely and not a sweaty mess.

OT - we were in Prince Edward County at a winery yesterday and there was a Tesla Model X was parked there - gullwing doors on the back - very funky looking! My brother was talking to the owner who says it is like driving an iphone! It is constantly hooked up to the interweb, all your apps work. It monitors everything, so, while it gets about 400km per charge - but if you are going 600 km, it will tell you where to stop and how long to charge to complete the journey. Not everyone's cup of tea I am sure but very cool none the less.

JP, You kinda hit the nail on the head. Your traveling in lots of traffic on an interstate that is no fun to drive on anyway and you just want to get there and back safely! in other words driving is no fun anyway! That speaks volumes for the vehicles we have today and autonomous cars are in out immediate future. Europe has had the answer for that for decades. Its called a train! On a Lotus forum a European purchased a car in Sweden. He took a train to get it then drove till it got dark whereupon he loaded it on another train and got a berthing compartment to sleep in overnight while he completed a leg of his journey! He then unloaded the car and continued home! That is unimaginable on this side of the Atlantic!

If driving was still an enjoyable experience for the masses the vehicles would be different and the next generation would look at them in a different light.

Kurt.

Since we're discussing 2 doors vs 4 doors - why do chicken coops only have 2 doors? If they had 4 doors they'd be chicken sedans! Ty, tyvm. I'll be here all week. Tip the waiters.

I'm kind of late here but I'll throw in my 2 cents, especially after seeing this today! Dealership markup of 25k! Yes, that puts the car to over 60k! That is Porsche Cayman territory! I'm in Canada but this one is American! Due to the somewhat limited production run, these cars will all get bought up. Remember economics class? "Scarcity", "supply and demand"? Ring any bells? There are simply too many rich people out there, and poor who are willing to compromise other aspects of life to get such items. People are different than they used to be, the next generation anyways. Back in the 80's, if you were a young professional, you might be driving a BMW 3 series. These days? If you made minimum wage and lived in your parents house, you might be leasing a new BMW 3 series!

The fun to drive car that is affordable? No such thing! Y'all can thank the millennial's! Back in my day, driving was a priority for most of the boys. Besides having a means of transportation, you can make some honest money delivering pizzas! And of course with the car and money, you can also have a better time taking a date out! These days, it's all about fads, and i-whatever that comes out. Millennials aren't really buying cars! Remember the 90's? Celica, Prelude, 240zx, Integra, Miata, etc... Whats left now? How much does a new miata cost? How about a new FRS/BRZ? Veloster? Sales of the FRS/BRZ went pretty stale after the hype was over. Most young guys can't afford it and older guys don't want it!

I can rant on and on... but I think I'll stop here for now....
