I noticed the other day a change in noise or sound when I depress the clutch pedal on my 76B, is this normal or do I have a problem? The clutch engages fine no slip, and the car runs great. Maybe like being in the lead of a race on the last lap, you think every sound means disaster waiting to unfold, or so they say. Mack /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cheers.gif
 
Change in noise as in ----? Change in engine RPM? Added noise like scrapeing metal to metal?? Describe it.
 
Possible throw-out bearing. Everthing works fine - for awhile - but you do have a noise when you depress the clutch pedal. It is not the most expensive problem you could have but it does require removing the bell housing from the engine. And that does require removing the engine or at least pulling it forward (on some cars). I don't know if you can do that on an MGB.

There is no change in the engine RPM, or engine sound, maybe a low pitch rattle that goes away. Hope this helps,thanks. MACK /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cheers.gif
 
I haven't heard throw-out bearing noise for years but it sure sounds like your problem. Unless someone comes up with a positive on this noise, you would be best off talking to your friendly neighborhood mechanic. (1/2 an hour passes).

Just finished doing a search on the web and I would say the problem is most likely the throw out bearing.
