No turn signals-Part 2

For those unaware of Dan's panel here is the diagram for my set up. As you can see he has included a horn relay

Sorry to butt in but I'm about to fly out to Anaheim to see Mickey for the weekend and I have to get my quota in to the forum. I think Randall meant that the rack itself is grounded to the frame, it is on my TR4 using a grounding strap at the grease plug.

That strap is for the horn to continue the ground to the chassis

Exactly !

The rack itself is mounted in rubber usually, as is the front suspension that it connects to. If the ground strap between rack & body/frame is left off, the horn usually won't work reliably even if everything else is in place.

And of course my comment about adding a relay does not apply if you've already added one (with or without Dan's wiring kit); or if your car is one of the later ones with factory horn relay. I didn't remember it being that early, but according to Dan's diagrams, a horn relay was standard for the TR6 from 1970 onwards. The ground for the steering rack is still needed, though.

And as always, the connection needs to be good electrically as well as mechanically. These things get corrosion behind them and contact can be lost over bumps as the may loosen up slightly.
