My 77 had always been reliable until the last week or so when it suddenly became hard to start. Today it has refused to start at all. The car is equipped with the CEI type ignition. It has fuel, fuel is making it to the carb, plugs, plug wires, rotor and distributor cap are new. All fuses have been checked and found good. I did notice that the Gold Lucas Sport Coil I have installed became extremely hot during my attemts to start the car today. Any ideas?

Regards John

Ahh, plot thickens. Is spark comming from the coil wire? If so I bet it must be in the dizzy, if not it must be the coil.

Did you install the points correctly are are they grounded?

It has the CEI electronic ignition. I am going to change the coil tomorrow to see what happens.

Hah, 77 MGBs do not have electronic ign. Sigh.

Hate to differ with you but mine was originally equipped with the OPUS ignition. Apparently someone later upgraded it to the CEI system. I changed out the coils and now I'm back in business.

Well done in any case. Glad it worked out.
