No Spark

I have a XK-140 that has been sitting in the garage for about 20 years. When parked, it was running just fine. I have decided it's time to get the car off blocks and running again. It turns over just fine however I can't seem to get spark to the spark plugs. Tested the high and low sides of coil and that appears fine. Testing coil by manually opening points with coil wire near block provides a good spark. Points open/close fine. My guess is that I'm getting spark to the distributor cap but nothing to the plugs. Any thoughts on what I may be missing? Mac

Hi Mac, what you may be missing is good contact between the carbon brush in the distributor cap and the rotor or a tired capacitor.FWIW---Keoke

Mac - you do know that XK140's are quite worthless now and even less because it won't spark. As a favor I would be happy to offer say $2000 site unseen just to help you out. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif

Bruce, thanks for your generous offer but I think I'll pass for now but will keep it in mind as I slowly go into debt. I'm thinking another $75,000 and I'll have an XK....worth....well, $75,000. Got to love the math on these projects. mac

OK Bruce you were joking but I just walked away from a 140 FHC for $5000 missing lots of parts but fairly clean body.Don't know about the engine or tranny but I didn;t want to find out.---Keoke /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
