No Spark Sparky

Ugg. So I pulled the gearbox out and waiting for the seal. In the meantime, heres our fire-up.

Listen carefully to the popping noise, we were sucking a bit of air from the gas tank to line connection, no fuel leak, but just enough to make it struggle in the first vids. But we got it. Oh, and a nice shock for me doing the timing, moving the distributor gave me a wake up!!!. Sorry for a little blurb in the beginning of the last vid, thats me shaking off the pop :>)

Yes, a very British (expensive) way of making a seal that doesn't work. Fortunately it is dead easy to fix the leak from the earlier boxes by boring the inside out to take a regular seal.
 
Looks nice! Two (2) questions: who are your assistants / cheering squad, and why are you using two (2) timing lights?

Shame they didn't get a video of you getting lit up by the coil... ;) and yes, been there, done that! Although, that's nothing compared to the spark igniter / ignition xmfr on a piece of gas fired industrial equipment (boiler, industrial furnace, take your pick, they all use the same thing)!

Jeannes in the drivers seat, then the oldest is ready with the battery cutoff, extinguisher, and keeping an eye on oil pressure, and the little kids, the 10 and 11yr old wanted to stand back, they said (we dont want to explode :encouragement:)

I know, what a great video it would have made having me, normally slow show my lightning speed jumping back from a nice zap! I guess I could have touched it with a test light first, but hey, the kids liked it?.

Reason for the two lights, good question. One I had set for RPM, thats all just used for readout. The other I set at 10 deg BTDC. Cables are not long enough for the real battery connection, so had the one next to me.

I guess now is the nest time for "timing q". Sounds like 35 deg BTDC is right for all in. Ive been doing the timing with the vac plugged off at the distributor. Question, to get 35 all in, do I bring the car to 3500 RPM, add the 35 in the light and get the timing mark on the cover and damper to align?

See, now I don't have one of those fancy timing lights, so I bring my revs up until it doesn't advance any further, then set it to the mark I want on the calibrated damper__pretty sure I've been using 34*

And since my distributor doesn't even have a vacuum advance, I don't have to plug it.

I'm also using an MSD6 AL-II, but off the top of my head, can't remember what settings, if any, I might've changed (that's the beauty of a piece of well engineered equipment__you take it out of the box, it works and you forget everything about it).
