No Power [Slow] through starter 59 Bugeye 1275cc

I am working on putting a 1275 into my bugeye. The enigine came out of a 69 midget. The wiring harness from a 63.

Background of motor, engine ran, it was put into a 69 sprite ran for about 2 years, now it sat for about 2, sealed inside.

I took the wiring out of a 63 to keep the wiring positive ground but run the 1275. Originally I was using the pull switch but it was slow, so I tried the key after getting the 63 wiring harness. Same results. I tried running it direct but still slow. Ive oiled the cylinders and everything but I still cant get it to turn quickly like the rest of the austins. Battery was tested in other cars with no problems. I have tried various starters, probaby 6 and all act the same. any Ideas? TIA

If it is an electrical problem, most of the time it is a bad connection. Check your connections, look for a bad ground, and make sure the timing isn't too far advanced. It could be a bad starter switch. Are your battery cables heavy enough?

Loose grounding strap was my issue. Tightened it up and it starts fine now.

This is a bare car, and I believe unless I am doing something majorly wrong, all wires are grounded well() running it straight there is only one ground. I think the timing maybe something to look in to. Thanks for the replies

Do the following:

1) pull off both terminals off the battery, clean with a battery terminal cleaner, and reinstall.

2) turn on the ignition, but use the push button on the solenoid to turn it over.

I bet that will make it faster to turn over.
