I was taking a test drive in my '69 TR6 yesterday and thinking
it's been almost exactly 4 years since my wife purchased the
red POS car that broke down 2 days later. 67 miles total
driven that first year, between breakdowns. I joined the BCF
and spent 2 years learning auto skills, rebuilding or
replacing just about every component on the car. Between
breakdowns I think I managed maybe 1000 miles of test drives
that second year.
It was just about two years ago that Tony, Mickey, Bruce and
their wives came to Puerto Rico to visit The Crypt Car. It was
operational at the time. Everyone got to see it and Tony asked
me to take him for a ride. I did. He kinda frowned at me and
told me to get out and let him drive the TR6. Tony drove the
pi$$ out of my TR6; I'm not sure he even used the clutch.
Scared me half to death. When we stopped Tony
proclaimed: "THERE! THAT's how you drive a Triumph."
I would post how many miles I got between breakdowns doing
test drives. Tony would holler at me I wasn't making test
drives; I was just driving. This became kind of a fun jest
between Tony and me.
Yesterday, I watched my odometer spin past 6000 miles since my
last breakdown. But Tony's not here to holler at at me about
my "test drive." So my test drives are over and I think Tony
would enjoy seeing what a nice TR6 that POS from 4 years ago
has become. He probably already knows.
