no.1 cylinder position in Distributor?

Can anyone point me in the right direction to find the position of the rotor button for no.1 cylinder in the distributor on a BJ8 (I'm assuming its the same for other Healey models?)

Had some new leads made for my car over Xmas, but I don't seem to have them back on the right plugs - evidenced by mis-firing and popping when trying to start.

I was under the impression that the position/lead for number 1 was the furtherest right hand lead away from the coil lead side ?

Thanks
Simon

I have colored the #1 plug wire red in this photo. It goes right under the coil wire which is top center. #1 goes bottom center. #4 is to the left of #1 because it is 6th in firing order. #5 is to the right of #1 because it is 2nd in firing order.

Thanks Tim. This is the position I have currently on the car, so I wonder what is going on? The first time I tried with the layout opposite, that is, I thought that the lead for cylinder six was the one I was told was for 1 - the length of the leads works out with this too  When I turned the key there was a single pop/backfire and I quit, realising there was something wrong...

This time there were a couple of fires on a few cylinders before a coupe of backfires, where upon i quit again. Given the positions were correct, do you think there is something else wrong, or is it just clearing some unburned fuel or something?

... Doh, I can see the problem... I quizzed my guy about which way the dizzy rotated, and he said clockwise. Must have got confused. Ok, dumb mistake :wall:

thanks for the help.
