Nitrophyle foam for floats

Someone recently discussed a wish-list of parts upgrades, etc. Given the frequency of folks having problems with sunken carb and tank sender floats I've been wondering why floats could not be made of a fuel-proof foam material.

I remember posting the question back in February but for somee reason never saw the followup. Looks like it would not be difficult to shape the material and then cover it with epoxy.
