night's question - A-Arms

well, I'm dismantling an A-arm off an early (slat grille) midget - It's in very good shape but I have a question.

The four bolts that holds the spring base in - they seem to have some kind of split ring or something on top of the nut. It seems to be locking the nuts on. I've never seen this before - in ideas? I might be able to get pics but I'm not sure my camera is god enough. Basically, it is a circular ring - thicker than a washer, about the same diameter as the nut with what appears to be a grove bisecting it on either side of the bolt

(SORT OF)

It's kind of a moot point because I hope to cut it off but I'm curious

thanks all

Can you get a socket on it, if so it must be a self locking nut?

and it just unscrews? same size? (1/2")

thanks

And of course that's what should be in that location.

Some of those self lockers will destroy threads, so toss the bolts when you get the out so that they aren't accidentally used somewhere else.

All this said, be carful when removing the springs, we've been through this before, but. I've done it with the car on jack stands, and simply using a jack under the arm, but althread to hold the springs tension is the best way the first couple times you might do this procedure.

Thanks for the reminder - springs are long off - but reinstalling will be the challenge

No no, front springs are easy. Please ask when you get to that part.

Maybe 15 min each side to remove or replace.

I know the trick as well. Simple and easy to do and safe as well. Ask the list and lots will help make it a whole lot simpler.
