Nice to have all these spares - Frank got hit

My niece was over at our house last night, I came home and parked about 8 feet behind her.

When she left she backed up into the front of my brown Midget.
It was dark, I told her I would take a closer look at it in the morning.

She said: "I didn't know it was back there"
I said: didn't you see my car when you came out and got into your car?
She said "it wasn't here when I parked here"

No kidding. Yes she is that young, no she isn't blond.

I guess I'll tell her that I have spare fenders and she will have to buy whatever I don't have and at least get the replacement fenders in primer. At that age she probably doesn't want to get her insurance involved, likely to be cheaper for her to just pay the repairs. If she goes with the insurance then they are going to pay for everything.

If she were not a relative, she would be buying fenders and everything.

The damage:
Both front fenders are crumpled in a bit and both headlight rings are dented, grille bent & broken, one halogen headlight broken.

Kids...

Ouch. I always get concerned with mine especially on the highway and that big semi is passing or next to me. These cars are so cool but one thing they are not is: Robust! Sounds like a lot of damage and the car was sitting still. Its sad to hear as I know when things happen it almost feels like somone killed the dog. I think if the insurance got involved you would just end up with more trouble then good. Hang in there on this one. My hopes is you dont have to much trouble getting it back to good.

At least she is employed and still lives at home.
So she has expendable income.

I plan to take it easy with her but still hold her responsible, it's what a good uncle should do - so that's what I'm going to do.

The Alfa I just picked up had the same thing done to it. Guy parked it in his driveway and his wife smacked into it. Said she couldn't see it in the rear view. I still can't figure out why she didn't see it when she walked past it to get into her car. Oh well, I got a really good car our of the deal.

BTW :banana:Happy Birthday

Thanks Terri, Happy Birthday to you too!

I just had a meeting with her and told her there was good news and bad news.

The best news was that I'm her uncle and I'm not mad at her or upset with her.

The bad news: showed her the parts that were damaged and the prices of those parts in the VB catalog.

The good news: I can get used parts for less...

The bad news: painting will be expensive

Then she said her boyfriends dad has a shop in his business and she will ask if he can do the paint.

She wanted to write me a check right there, I told her to wait until I put together a list of stuff and she sees about the paint.

Rick, when it's all back together, I might also consider adding a pair of nerf bars to replace the missing front bumper. If that were still there, there would have been a bit less damage!

I'm already considering just taking the whole front bumper from the 64 and putting it on the front of the 78. I know I've got someone on my parts list who is interested in the bumper, but... "me first".

Yeah! The chrome bumper will look great! (I have always thought that an interesting front bumper set-up would be a pair of BE rear bumperettes mounted horizontally!!)

Sorry to hear about the bump - while it's all getting done, you might want to "finish" the job
