If course if they really wanted to replicate the wartime experience they'd wait until dark and send them up. Wouldn't be quite as exciting for the crowd though.

This weekend is the Chicago Air and Water Show. The Blue Angels are back this year. Not sure what else will put in an appearance.

Great shot of the Lancasters! I was born in Blenheim so I guess I've always been partial to the Bristol Blenheim.
My cousin was there.
He re-posted this photo on Facebook. How much flaps and reduced throttle does an F-18 Hornet need to slow down so it can stay with an Extra 300L?
......or, how far can Sean D. Tucker push the throttle forward in that Extra?!
I met Sean Tucker at a little, local airshow years ago....neat guy.
I spend part of my childhood living near Lakehurst NAS (my Dad still lives down the street from it). As kids we'd see the Blue Angles practicing during the Summer. Sonic BOOMS!

Eight synchronized Merlins has to be one heck of a sound! Someone suggested that the BBMF Lanc come across the pond next year so they could have a diamond formation of two Lancs and two Mosquitos. IIRC, there is a third Lanc in Canada that has fully functioning engines, but isn't flown, so you could have three Lancasters on the ground.

JP, Age has a way of teaching us many things, being involved in many professions, doing many things and meeting many people. If the younger generation would only take the time to set down and tap the minds of the senior members of our society, the education they could receive would be highly rewarding! Schools don't teach life experiences, only living them does and a lot of us have been living them for a long time.

I couldn't agree more. Some of the best days I have up at the hangar in Fawn Grove are ones where I don't do any work on the actual airplane, rather, I just sit back and listen to these guys (average age is 84!) talk about their experiences, technical discussions or listen to some very wise words of wisdom. I don't know too many places where a 46 year old like myself is considered the baby of the group. A good number of these tidbits have come in handy when I'm turning wrenches on the Sprite.
We've become such an instant gratification society that the art of patience and working on a long-term project have become lost. We watch cars go from wrecks to spectacular restorations in 30 minutes on TV. Real life doesn't work that way, though, and delayed gratification is ultimately far more long lasting and fulfilling than the quick hits that are now considered the norm.

Kind of amazing. Not sure where the stall speed is for a Hornet and don't see a lot of the control surfaces in the shot but it appears they don't have much of the "laundry hung out." Carrier landings are typically at around (or just under) 200 MPH and on the knife-edge of stall IIRC. The Extra seems to have an upper limit of just north of 250? Quite a balancing act in that photo.
Haven't hunted a video of the event but it could be the photog caught the F-18's as they did a fly-by just for that shot.

No question it's legit, just speculating about the "hang time" for a Hornet trimmed out the way those seem to be.
