Nice Lotus S2 listed

Now THAT would be Don's car!!!!

Looks to be a nice car. It would be nice to know the S/N. It's a Federal early transition S2 with S1 tail lights. S/N is proably close to mine. Maybe I'll contact him, it would be nice to have some more info on the car and additional pics. I'd love to have a LHD and RHD S2's parked next to each other. I can dream can't I?

64 Elan, Hey happy B'day

Awwwww!!!!! Yous guys are killing me

With the six taillights, it's an S1, but the S/N would be telling.

Surely with the boot lid being the short version, not extending to the rear, makes it an S1 for sure?

No sir, 6 tail lights means it's a Federal S1, or early S2. 4 tail lights eells you it's a non fedral S1 or early S2. The first 250 (estimate) S2's had S1 tail lights, S2 badges, and a full width dash board, and possibly different pedals, and a few other subtle things, and are called transition cars. If the number is 26/3901 or above it's an S2.

S1's and S2's had the same boot lid, your S3 and later cars had the wrap around boot lid.

Yeah, it was a "fix-I-go" car company from the start... and serial numbers can narrow the year of production, for certain.

But the "cut-out" boot lid is no more narrowing of series I.D. than four or six tail-lights. It's been a crap-shoot the whole time...
seems whatever was at hand at the time got put into the beasties.

I'm sure that, given Chapman's reputation for stinginess, they used up every scrap of prior production when model changes were made.
I really know that S3s introduced the longer bootlid - guess I had a "duh" or senior moment!

When I had #3892,there were two sizes of taillights you could use.
Of course, anything's possible on a used Lotus!
