well, we are going to try today, but, just to confirm.

1. I don't plan to glue the carpet in the wheel well/ under the seats or over the transmission hump - any others?

2. Any preference - velcro or double sided carpet tape for the removable above?

3. The vinyl covered piece that goes between the trunk and the cockpit - does carpet go up to it? or under it?

I think you'll have to glue it on the wheel well.
If you use velco, then bond it with 3M VHB tape.
 
I'd try velcro first. I sure wish my PO hadn't glued over the transmission hump, covering access to routine maintenance areas, I had to tear it off and damaged an otherwise nice carpet. Can you buy just single pieces? Like a new tranny hump piece. That's the piece I really should replace.
 
What Trevor Jessie said about gluing it to wheel well x2

As far as the other panels you mentioned go, I don't think you'll even need velcro. Mine aren't attached at all and they are fine that way. The carpets in the footwells on my car aren't secured at all and that seems to work well for me too.
 
I use 3M #74 spray glue for the carpets.
When I have to get to the tranny fill plug, the glue lets go with a slight tug.
Hit it with a shot of glue and it's back til the next time.
Other # glues will hold too strong or not strong enough. I never had any loose carpets with #74 yet they are easy to pull off.

The worst is over - Rear wheel humps, back ledge and piece from ledge to floor. Turns out the best man for this job was a woman - my wife in particular. I had already asked for help, partly because it is easier but mostly because her hobby is sewing. So, we start with the big hump pieces - lay down a 4 inch wide strip of contact cement across the top and located the carpet fore and aft. Then fit the piece down the sides. At this point watch the blood drain out of my face as my wife grabs a knife and starts cutting wedges freehand. "get my sewing scissors" is all she says. Every cut closes and fits perfectly! looks like it was made for it and every subsequent piece just like it - I was never so happy to be the sidekick in all my life.

Leading a workshop tomorrow so I'm not sure if I'll get at it but there will be pictures soon.

My wife would do the same thing.
 
Got home in time to finish gluing the last of the pieces wot need gluing - the rest is in loose but it looks magnificent! I am stunned at what a difference it makes. I am really happy and one big step closer to done.
 
Oh, and I forgot to mention - quite happy with the Stock Carpet Kit - price was very good, fit quite good - a couple of pieces trimmed to fit and some others trimmed after glued in. Even figured out those two quarter round pieces. On each side of the rear seat, about 3-4 in. out from the side, coming from front inside corner of each wheel well is a vertical flange - tada. Just make sure you wrap the piece over the top
