Nice cars at work... for a change

Have just been lucky enough to drool over 3 cars headed for the “Eyes On Design” show at one of the Ford mansions this weekend…. Toyota of Hollywood (Florida) dealer Craig Zinn, brought three cars up from his private collection and they were exhibited in the courtyard of our styling building. There were two beautiful 2000 GT’s and a car that was brand new to me… an 800 GT. One of the GT’s was a convertible, one of only a couple in the world, the other one looked like a little Ferrari and was absolutely stunning – worth about $150,000. He owns 18 GT’s, one of which is the Carroll Shelby one, it’s insured for a million dollars!

The little 800 GT looks strikingly like a TVR Tasmin from the doors back; front engined 800cc about 60bhp. They didn’t know how much it weighed but thought it was well under 1500lbs. It was brought into the US by a Serviceman who bought it while serving in Guam, for about $500... Craig gave him $10,000 for it!

Unfortunately, we couldn’t take photos, due to the proximity of our styling area… very cool to see, and well worth standing around melting in 93 degree temps.

I think both of those cars were partly (or mostly) built by Yamaha. Carroll Shelby raced the 2000 GT for a while. Around the same time that Toyota had the 800, Honda built a little S600 chain-drive roadster....also neat.

We have seven Miatas and just about everything else is a mini-van or SUV. We did have a perfect, one-owner MGB but the guy just got rid of it and bought a new Miata (I tried to talk him out of it....or at least buy the MGB myself. No luck).

Absolutely, they offered it to Nissan (Datsun) before Toyota, but it was too expensive for them to produce, so Toyota snapped it up.

Neat cars!

I saw a 2000 GT conv at a musuem in Edingburgh, Scotland. It was the one used in the James Bond movie. Very nice looking car!
 
The parking lot where I work has a TR3, an MGTD, a 54 Porsche 356 Speedster, a 57 Porsche 356 coupe, an MGB, a Nissan 280Z, a Fiat spider, a 54 chevy Bel Air hot rod, a 47 Chrysler Windsor, a 65 Mustang hot rod, a 66 mustang, a 64 Buick Special, and my bicycle or BMW.
 
It is widely believed that the 2000GT convertible in the museum is not one of the two cars from the Bond movie. Evidently, those cars disappeared. Another coupe was chopped for the museum.

I happen to love the looks of the Toyota 2000GT, but at 6'4" I'm probably 8 inches too tall to ever drive one.

Speaking of the S600...I know where one has been sitting in my neighborhood for at least 10 years up on a trailer in someones driveway(it's either an S600 or S500)....I've inquired many times but she won't sell it...a shame it's in VERY good condition, almost perfect interior and very little surface rust, it just sits and rots away slowly

I am also a fan of the 2000GT...about the only Toyota I like, I wouldn't want to be looking for parts for one of those.

really? Shame they had to chop one up.

They also had some Bond Aston Martins, one of Mr Beans Minis, KIT, etc. Cool place.
 
Our small Toyota dealer has a decent parking lot at times. We sport a Superformance Cobra, a 68 Datsun 2000 (solex) and my TR4A. Along with a couple of Harleys (whatever) and a 66 Pontiac convertable.
My uncle in Flordia has a tiny Honda roasdter he brought back from Japan when he got out of the service. I believe it's probably the S600. His has an Olds v6 and a narrowed Olds rearend, and a shifter that sticks up higher than the windshield.(ode to ratfink)
He said that when he first brought it back (circa 1970) the DMV tried to give him motorcycle plates. They told him "Honda dosen't make cars".To which he replied, "Wanna see one?"
