Hey guys! My name is Eric and i live in Louisville, Ky. I'm really excited to have found this site because i've been trying to find a site about British cars for a while now. For some background info, i'm 20 years old and ever since i was a kid my dad has owned a Triumph Spitfire. Actually, ever since HE was a kid he has pretty much owned one. I think he's on his 4th right now. He currently owns two, one that he takes to shows and one that is in decent shape but doesn't currently run.
Anyways, i have always loved the cars and wanted one myself. But i have really always been a fan of GT6's. I think they look beautiful. So my dad is in a British car club here in Kentucky and he knew of a guy who had a GT6+ for sale that needs a decent amount of work to get running. I went out to look at it with my dad and bought it the next week. Its a 1970 GT6+ that doesn't currently run. Its going to need to be completely rewired electrically, the body needs to be stripped down and it needs to be painted. Oh, and the interior will need to be put back in as well. So, i've got some work ahead of me but now that i've found this site, hopefully you guys will be able to give me advice and help me along the way! I'll try to include some pictures of it in this thread.

Wow, you've got yourself a project! Welcome to the Forum, you should hop over to the Trimuph Forum and get acquainted! Lots of luck!

Welocme - yep, that's a project alright - but it looks solid!!

Were it me, the first thing I'd do is clean that body & get some epoxy primer on it right away.

Hi Eric,

"Welcome" to the wonderful world of "LBCs" (Little British Cars) on this great Forum we call the "BCF".

Its kind of surprising that your Dad being a fan of Triumphs has`nt found or been on this forum! Not yet anyway!

I feel you have a solid looking car there buddy. Sure; It`ll take a bit of time & $$$ but the pay back is big! Just ask one of the current members on this forum. He goes by the name of "Tinster". "Read all about it" but don`t get frightened!! Its not an everyday occurance.

Best Wishes to You, Your New/Old toy & Your Dad,

Russ

Welcome aboard Eric,
I used to have a GT6 with the same aluminum wheels, but mine was a '68. They are fun cars. My wiring was also screwed up from the previous owner. Left turn signal would make the high beam indicator flash, among other gremlins.

I've always liked the GT6. Though I've never owned one myself, I've done a whole lot of work on some others at various garages. It looks like a wonderful project. It'll certainly keep you busy and out of trouble for a while.
There was once a local race team (in Falls Church Va back when I was a young man) that had several. This is a picture of one of their later versions. Good for inspiration.

Welcome Eric:

The car looks solid, but I'd agree with Tony; get some primer on it as soon as you can.

You may be interested to know that Tim Suddard (of Grassroots magazine) is restoring a Group 44 GT6...it might even be the one shown above. You can read about it ~HERE~

Yeah, i actually met Tim not too long ago. The british car club my dad is in took a 1000 mile road tour around KY for 4 days. I got to ride shotgun with him in his '71 spitfire and there were a bunch of other british cars too. Two more spitfires an old Jaguar, and Tim and his wife drove their beautiful Sunbeam Tiger while taking pictures. The trip is going to be in one of their magazines early next year sometime. I've been meaning to make a thread about it and include some neat pictures i took. But yeah, Tim has a NICE GT6 that i can't wait to see when he gets done. Oh, but the pictures are going to be in his other magazine Classic Motorsports, not Grassroots Motorsports. Later!

-Eric
