Congratulations Basil on hitting the 5000 milestone. It seems I’ve been remiss in posting an introduction so here it is.

My dad picked up a ’74 Midget project car when I was 8 or so and I fell in love with the car. He passed away a couple years later and the project never got finished. I was too young to take on the body work that it needed and after sitting for a few years it had to go. I kick myself now since it went to the local auto recycler; I hope someone got use of some parts at least.

Last year I picked a ’73, a good daily driver with horrible body work and paint by one of the previous owners, a good 30/30 car. I’ve rebuilt the tranny, changed over to Petronix, upgraded the front springs and sway bar, added a rollbar, 5 point harness for the drivers side, new interior, and worked out all the electrical problems (that I know about of course).

I’m in the process of building a spare engine, so I’ll be asking for advice; I have David Vizard’s book to start. I also have a Datsun 5 speed for the tranny upgrade that will get rebuilt after the engine is done and probably go in over the winter.

I’m autocrossing August 6th so we’ll see what I break.

Welcome Chris,

I have a 73 Midget and I have done alot of the work you're talking about; Datsun 5-Speed, suspension, brakes, gauges, rollbar, harness, etc. It sounds almost like we have the same ideas about a Midget. If you ever have any questions, I'm sure even if I don't get around to it, someone here will. This forum is the best and it has helped me alot to make my car strong and reliable. Good luck!

I talked to a couple guys that run EMRA and it sounds like it is a good group. I think the car will pass tech for time trialing, I don't think I can make the August 9th event, but I may go and work the August 20th race to get acquainted with folks. We’ll see how things go, either way I’m sure we’ll see each other at one of the events eventually.
