TR2/3/3A Newbie question

So I acquired what I believe to be a 1958 TR3A and started a full restoration. I am kinda new to the forum stuff and my computer skills are serviceable but nothing to write home to mom about! I would like to start a thread to document my restoration and progress...kinda a big picture view with lots of photos. What section of the forums would that be best started in? Also, can someone explain best way to handle the pictures? I understand asking model specific questions and uploading photos in regards to the question...in fact I just posted a thread here and uploaded two photos. I am more questioning the thread/discussion I start telling the overall story and showing restoration steps and before/after photos etc.

Altho' it's an aircraft restoration, it might be considered a great way to show step by step restoration of just about *anything*. Certainly has some great photos, and lots of meaty comments.

Some guys do their restoration journals on photo sites (Flickrr, Photobucket, etc.) and just put photo links here on BCF.

I'll contact Basil (the Boss who runs BCF); he may know other good ways to have a BCF step by step restoration journal.

What got you interested in the TR3? When I had mine, it was a great intro to classic cars for me, and I could handle most of the jobs myself - other than body work. I swear body work can only be done by mere mortals with lots of spiritual guidance from experienced experts!

Thanks guys! I am sure I will figure it out little by little...I am putting so much time in out in the shop I don't have much time allocated to internet but trying to get involved more.

As soon as figure out the right place to post I will include lot's of details and photos. I enjoy all sorts of restoration and fabrication work. Experimental airplanes included! Have a couple of other vehicle projects started or waiting to start. I have done quite a bit of basic bodywork and a lot of painting, but learning new skills when it comes to welding sheetmetal! Lot's of good info here on this site!
The TR3 A belonged to an older friend and neighbor of mine...he passed away and his wife asked if I would want it. I have always loved the cut down doors and styling of the sidescreen TR's, and so I said yes and dove in! My friend purchased the car in 1972 I believe, and brought it to MO with them in 1976. He parked it in a barn and it never moved again until I pulled it out this past December. While he was alive, I had helped him a couple of times fix a few things on it, but he never did anything with it, not even transferring title or licensing it here in MO (They moved here from Nebraska.) It appears that it was pretty much 99% original, and had all the original items like covers, sidescreens (and actually a second set slightly different) most tools/jack handcrank etc. No bondo or previously repaired damage (though may still find some). Rear overider and left fender slightly damaged. And front bumper not great and no overiders on front. I believe it has had a fresh coat of paint over the original, but only the outer panels repainted.
Typical areas of rust damage, which is what I am working on now.

Sorry so long a reply...this kinda info is what I am wanting to share along with pics but need to figure out which forum area to post it in. Do I just put it here in the TR3 subsection or members discussion area or???

Not sure how to go back and edit my original post...Don't know what I was thinking but I said 1959 and it is actually a 1958 by the title and BHF build sheet.

I was able to go in and fix the date in your first post for you.
 
Barn finds? Nice to see them. They always look so innocent and inviting when the first photos are taken. Then you start looking.......Bill, 1958 TR3, the forever restoration.....
 
Getting back to your original question on how to show all the steps in my restoration journey ...

You could just continue adding to the post you've started here in Pub. Pub gets lots of attention. You could also start something like "My TR restoration adventure" here, or in the Triumph section of BCF, altho' that would get less activity from non-Triumph eyeballs.

You could also start a WordPress blog - but that would probably really cut down on BCF viewers.

Wish the BCF moderators would chime in on this!

BTW, you can always edit your post by clicking Edit at the bottom of the post - but that window closes, I think within 24 hours of your posting it.

Just keep adding to the thread to document your progress. User CJD documented his TR3(?) restoration (although I think a lot of the photos got deleted šŸ˜Ÿ). I documented my TR4A - search for ā€œassembly by a rookieā€ (or just ā€œrookieā€).

Like everyone noted, I started documenting using photobucket as a 3rd party to handle pictures. At the time the forum didn't have the ability to accept large numbers of pictures. Since then, photobucket decided to charge for their previously free service, and are holding all the pictures hostage! They still show, but they have "photobucket" written across the pics.

Anyway, now the website is much better accepting pictures, so I would just upload them here, if I were to do it again!

Anyway...looking forward to following your progress!
 
I had the same problem with Photobucket, as I'm sure a lot of others had them as well. I switched to the free version of Picasa, and it's been working fine for me. You can upgrade Picasa for more options if needed, for a small fee. (y)
 
Thanks all for your replies. I got into the rabbit hole years ago with photobucket...and last thing I need right now is to increase my workload concerning pics:smile:...so I would much prefer to post directly here. The only way I have figured out so far is the insert image button...but wondered what the media button was? Is there a place I can upload several of my pics somewhere tied to my account, then retrieve as needed for different posts I create? Somehow upload 4-5 at a time?
