Newbie kind of! BJ7 Shrould

Hello everyone. It's been along time. Actually i must admit that I have been lurking here from time to time. I've always enjoyed the interesting threads but after seeing so much experience here I never really thought that I had too much more to add. I've had a nawing question about my healey for sometime but just never jumped in to ask it but now recently I see posted question that I might be able to help with and then maybe one of you could answer my question. The post I noticed was about the BJ7 with a shrould that looks like a BJ8. I too have a '63 BJ7, I also have separate turnsignals and running lights. When I bought it, it was explained to me that it was that way because it was a European version. One destined for a country which had the mandated safety lighting requirements of separate indicators. You see they were mandated early on in Europe before they where ever established on the BJ8s. But there is a diference. The lights on my car are smaller than the lights on the BJ8s and mine are the original Lucas glass lens not the larger plastic ones as on the later BJ8s sent to the States. This was confirmed to me during my first year of ownership while reading about every book I could find on the Austin Healey, I found that explaination in on the Healey books. But for the life of me I can't remember which one. It might have been in one of Anderson and Moment's books or maybe Robson's. But I really don't know. The fact that, that manifestation was a European model was also strengthened to me when I sent for the Heritage Trust certificate for my car and found that my car was originally delivered to Stugart, Germany. Anyway, I hope this helps the owner of the other BJ7 like mine. He's got a pretty rare car.

Thanks for posting Dave. I too recently purchased a BJ7 that was built with European specs. My car was built 17-28, August 1962 and shipped to a dealer in Dusseldorf, Germany 7 September 1962. It is Chassis number H-BJ7-L/20191. Whats interesting are the details of fitted equipment: Wire wheels, heater, adjustable steering column, laminated windscreen, overdrive, roadspeed tires, Octagonal wheel nuts, steering column lock, Kilometre-per-hour speedometer, and the temperature gauge is in Celsius. Now, the front shroud is not equipped with separate lights, it is more like a BT7 shroud with single lights with glass lens. It is possible that some cars that were sent to France vs Germany were different in that I believe that country did require yellow lights. What do you mean "extra silencers" haven't heard about that particular difference. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
My car did have the steering column lock, how about your's Dave? Also, if you're not going to use it (the steering column lock) I'm interested in obtaining one, the PO didn't provide it when I bought the car.

I hope i'm putting this post in right, I didn't know which reply button to hit. Not very computer literate.
Anyway, my car does have a steering column lock. And a celsius temp gauge. It does not have an extra silencer. The exhaust system is what seems typical of an early 3000 system. I'll probably be keeping my steering column lock because my car is completely together and I don't intend to take it apart much in the near future,(i hope) /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
I'm going to start a new thread because I want to ask you folks a question about an oil leak.

The explanation of Dave that it is a European version can be right.
And I agree with Dave, it's a pretty rare car.
