I am new to this so please bear with me. Found out I was posting in the wrong forum! Oops! I am restoring the seats from the ground up. Need to know a few things:
1. WHat kind of glue do I need for the vinyl to foam? Can I buy it locally in a store? I hate to have to wait for mailorder!

2. The flame retardant material on the bottom of the seat. Is that necessary or can I use something else?

3. Any leads on seatbelt sensors for the seats?

Pics..
Bought the car as:

I'll be doing my seat restoration this winter so can't offer tips on what glue etc, I'm not even sure that glue needs or should be involved, the covers should just slide right on, most adhesives will just eat the foam. It is my opinion that I won't be worrying about flame retardents. Given the physics involved in a collision with an SUV, a warm backside is the least of my worries.
Moss has seat belt warning switches 542-400 listed for MGBs that might work for you.
Great pics Lou, keep us updated on your progress, you'll have a lot to offer those of us (me!) who'll be doing seats later on. Welcome.

Glue on seats, since when. Vinal is cliped on.

lol..ok ok..I got the free Interior Restoration guide from Victoria British. It gives hte step by step to the entire interior. It recommends putting glue on the indentation (middle). I found glue at Home Depot for about $13 a can from 3M called Rubber & Vinyl 80 Spray Adhesive. I'll see if it works. I guess I am goin got go to Rag Shop to find some white cloth for the bottom!

I would check with somebody who recovers seats for a living or maybe someone else can help out with/in this forum but I don't remember any glue being used in the seat recover process let us know for sure if u can find out cause I plan on redoing my seat this winter where in Jersey r u located

Test a small piece before you use it Lou. Glue and foam don't historically react too well, if it works...great, tell us all about it and I'll buy a can myself, I would just hate for that to damage the seat in any way.
No VB jab here, but I think they may encouraging a product sale that may not be 100% needed. I know they sell a glue for the carpet etc.... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/england.gif

well, the old seats had glue in the recessed area just as this VB manual suggests, but if its not needed then so be it! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif. I did glue some black cloth onto the bottom with the foam. SO far no damage . it's been about 60 minutes. I'll post pics shortly and thank you all for the advice! I need it!

PS> I am in Freehold...u?

Welcome.

You should be fine with the 3M spray Glue.

Blackjokr,
Did you throw away the old covers? I need 1 black seat bottom if you still have it. PM me if you could.

I have them VP. My passenger seat is actually in good condition, but I can't just recover one seat!

Sure you can, there is a guy on eBay that sells sprite seat covers. He will make any kind any color one or two hundred.

I mean they will look differnet because of the age of the materials. Plus its fun to do!

I'm thinking about getting the only midget I have left together and I need 1 seat bottom. with or without foam is fine. The seats are black and from a 72 but I believe like show in blkjkrs pics.

Passenger or driver I think they are the same. NOt looking for perfect just a ratty driver. The DPO's dog ate the seat bottom.
Cool.

VPING I have the all of the foam and the bottomg. The back vinyl is ripped, but the bottom is nice. The foam for the bottom is nice except some leftover rust remnants but the foam is intact and shaped nicely. The back foam is warped. If you want it let me know.!
