Well, My hometown forum for honda performance (www.humbleperformance.com) had an ad for a 72 midget come up... Well I work on hondas regualarly and have modified many. Just messing around I offered a old turbo kit i had for a civic.... and look what I ended up with /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif:D:D:D.

72 midget. Its all there, the previous owner had it running as soon as 5months ago and he started pulling it apart to paint it and repair minor damage/rust. He gave up... hopefully I wont!!

onto what everone wants to see.

New midget in Tulsa.

parts traded were roughly worth 450-500. I am happt with it whether or not it was too much.
Today- Threw a battery in it. Cranks over and has even compression according to the sound of the starter.

Tomorrow will be the 3rd day I have owned it. I will start the process of cleaning/ overhualing the carbs and hopefully hear some fire in the hole.

My other cars.
1987 Toyota Supra
1988 Honda CRX VTEC head swap, custom turbo setup made by me. Best time of 13.7@106
1992 Honda Civic Si also has been turbocharged.

You are indeed in the right place. I got my first MG this year. The guys and gals on this forum are a wealth of information. Their advice has helped me solve problems both great and small. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Welcome, you are going to love this forum. I got my first MG about three weeks ago. It's really a hoot, and it draws more attention than I ever imagined.

there are SOOOO many differences between the ol midget and hondas. i have alot to learn. luckily my dad is well educated with older cars. he worked for Glen Prey in the 70s building Auburns and has worked on many 60s and 70s british cars.

im sure everyone will be sick of seeing pictures of the car as it progresses. i am sure i will 'whore' it out on the internet

Just a warning -I got my first MG about 3 months ago and am now up to 3! The help from this forum has been awesome. Welcome

Hey - a little round wheel arch Midget....welcome...you'll love it....I'm going to move this post to the Spridget Forum...good luck

72! Jealous. Nice. Welcome to the forum.

Welcome.
It will be interesting to see your opinion on the differences between an ultra modern motor ( Honda ) and the little A motor. Not really a fast car, but more fun than most

Taz

Welcome!
I need to echo Tonys and Monarks remarks.
1. Round Wheel Arch midgets are the best.
2. They (MGs) reproduce very quickly.

Are you thinking of putting a Honda motor in it?

Welcome, Hondas are for little old ladies.

Midgets are fun little cars that get a lot of "looks". And while they are not fast in stock form, they can be easily modified. I've surprised a few wannabe "racer boy" Hondas with my little Midget. However, with a 3.9 rearend and 40+ year old suspension design, I'm not going to be running 130 MPH.

With that HONKIN' great intercooler on that posted Honda, I suspect it'd cause a li'l ol' lady to need a change o' "Depens" kinda quick.

Well I can't help it if I never saw a go fast Honda. Only ones I ever see are little old ladies or ones with strange cans on the exhausts.

Welcome, I been playing with these cars on the street and race track as long as I can remember. This are quite different cars than the more modern cars like your Hondas, (I own a Honda as well), these are what I like to refer to as "ole comfortable shoe" cars, they just feel right. You'll be surpised in how fast that little 1275 motor will rev for a old pushrod 4 banger and how when properly prepped how well it will carve a corner, our little cars have been ticking off Jap car owners for years at race tracks across America and the world, these little old cars just won't go away quietly /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif You'll also find that you can buy as many go-fast goodies for your 1275 as you can for your Honda, from companies like Mini Mania, Winners Circle, Moss Victoria British and many other small mod shops like mine Acme Speed Shop. The sky is the limit in what you can spend on your Midget, but you don't have to buy the farm to have fun with car Your Honda buddies will be amused at you when they hear you brag about some guy who has a 1275 that can put out 100+ HP on the street, but remember these are small light cars and 100 hp in a Spridget is like 200 in a Honda. These car will teach you "ole school" engine building, where it takes more than a chip or turbo to wake it up, but that knowledge can be applied to your Hondas as well. I guarantee you this your Midget will teach you more about motors in a year than than your Hondas have uptil now and what you learn from these cars can be applied to those madern cars in many respects. Old cars will teach you skills that will stay with you for life. The only disclaimer I can give you is old British cars are about as additive as crack cocaine /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Most important thing is that young folks like yourself ( I'm guessing you are under 30) are good for our sport/hobby and insure that are litle cars will be around for a long time and help bridge genaration gaps through common ground. Have fun and if I can help with anything including free advice, just let me know.

Welcome aboard. Nice find on the Midget. I'd second the warning on acquisitions, though. Swore I'd only have one (after I bought the 1960 Sprite) but now I have 2. Sure it's for parts, but it could easily be restored as well...

They're fun cars, and lots of folks here share the passion and have good knowledge to pass on.

I do have a car addiction... all my friends mak fun of me for having 3... now i have a fourth /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif...

Its killing me that I have not heard it run, let alone not drive it.

I have been thinking about the engine options in it. The stock motor probably wont satisfy my 'need for speed' (haha i know cheesy). A Honda S2000 motor has crossed the mind /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
I have also thought about retro-fitting a Honda fuel injection system to the engine... i am able to program them to a t...

but i also like the idea of a header and some webers...

I like to see the good input on hondas. I did not expect most to acknowledge them as a car :p

I have been listening to the sound of MGs on youtube... wow. so different than honda!! I am most deff goign to hve to put this sucker on the dyno once its running proprly!! waahooo what 50whp? like you said 100 is going to be alot from a 1200cc.

are their any different heads you can swap on to the 1200 to increase flow?

-Adam

I'm not a purist by any means, but people can make these 1275s do some serious hp. The webers might not help you in that regard....

Adam , u can rev a midget up to 5000 RPM without much worry! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
also,
that was a very discreet plug Hap,
and Baz, dont even start with the
Honda motor conversion yet! haha /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
goood day guys.........zimmmmy
