New Words - WHY???

OK - I've groused about this before, but why do ~we~ have a need to invent new words and use them, especially without explaining what they mean? Latest one (at least for me) is "Spox". For those, like me, not in the know, it means "spokesperson". Had to look it up. Is it so hard to say/type out the real word rather than go shorthand?

As the father of two youngsters, I commiserate with you!! I understand language is one way of being "different" and "rebellious" to the parents, and less detrimental than, say, smoking. Annoying nonetheless!

("Spox" sounds like an unpleasant medical condition )

Here's the trick. As a Baby Boomer if you start using the word the rest of the hipster world is immediately required to stop using the word. It is a law of the universe.
