My youngest...if 35 can be called young..has had a 74 bug that I gave her the day she turned 15. Five years ago her brother who is five years younger, did a total resto on it for her 30th. birthday. I'm blessed with two wonderful children. Anyhow, yesterday I finished a brand new, 0 spec engine for it. Totally detailed, painted and runs like the day it came from the factory..or better.

Nice, Jack! Brings back memories of my '63 sunroof bug and '64 Ghia convertible back in the late 60's and early 70's. I built engines for both of them, the Ghia having 1600+ cc's, dual port heads, Holley, mild cam, diaphragm clutch, and way too much fun!

Nice!

I just went thru the neighbor's SuperBeetle carb for him... I think someone stuffed an earlier motor in it. Solex carb. Bolt it on, light it off. Great cars.

My daughter's first car was a '71 Karmann Ghia that she & I totally restored....she put less than 25,000 miles on it before she retired it while she was in college....we've still got it & she's talking about renewing it as a weekend toy.....think it might be because we're repainting her Grandmom's '73 Beetle that only has 57,000 miles on it.

I'm going to try and do the same thing this winter on a '70 single-port engine. Did you regrind the crank/cam or put new ones in...and did you rebuild the heads or just buy new or rebuilt ones?

Mine was cooked pretty bad right before the hurricanes hit two years ago and I haven't gotten to it yet. Except for a couple of cracked cylinders I can't find anything else that seems that bad on it.

Great ol' cars if you can keep the rust devil from them. Just sold my '62 bug convert last spring-- last of about 20 I have owned, not including my son's '65 bus and '74 bug.
