We just got a Dyson vacuum cleaner, and holy cow, does it do a great job!

It's the "Animal", designed to cope with pet hair. Does what it says on the box, no question about it. Highly recommended, if any of you are in need of a similar machine.
 
Agree! We bought one a few months ago and love it! The best vacuum we have ever owned by far.

Whereas we've had one for a coupla years and SWMBO hates it. She says it *doesn't* suck (if you'll pardon the unfortunate pun).

I'm not sure what she expects though - perhaps a wormhole or a depressurizing jumbo jet...

Hmm, maybe they've improved since you bought yours? Or maybe yours is defective somehow? Dunno, I just know the one we bought is nothing short of amazing!

In the condo, we have a Eureka upright that I could take or leave. The cleaning gal comes every two weeks and she won't use it...brings her own Oreck.

Mr. Oreck (the company owner) is an aerobatic pilot and very involved in aircraft stuff, so, for no other real reason, I've been thinking it would be neat to get an Oreck. Big bucks though.

At the summer house, I really wanted a decent canister vacuum (lots of wood floors). They're not easy to find anymore. Eventually, I found this ~little Eureka canister~ that I sort of like but the bag size is pretty small.


I have a big (12 gallon?) B&D wet/dry shop vac in my workshop.....that thing really has a good draw.

We have a Lucas vacuum.It's the only thing they make
that doesn't suck!

I guess I must be the lazy one of the group. I have a Roomba. One of those robotic vacuums that drives around scaring cats and chasing dust bunnies down. I got it using points from my companies ATT account. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

We also have a Eureka upright, but it does not get much mileage any longer. I have heard from many that the Dyson is a great machine, but a bit expensive for me.

Was that picture of Jim Hall's sucker car taken at Bridgehampton?? I saw it there during it's brief hayday. All the other cars cried foul. Especially with all the foul dust and gravel blowing on their nice paint jobs! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/nopity.gif

I've 2 Dirt Devils both "portable". One is one of them hand held wand thingies. I got it cause I have a small place and it has attachments that I thought would make it ideal for cleaning this hole. I was wrong. I needed a vacuum with a beater bar brush. Plus the suction is too weak to clean the carpet, but its ok for getting into nook and crannies.

So for a while, I used my first Dirt Devil. It's one of those old ones with hose attachments and a shoulder strap. It's excellent for cleaning the car out. It has lots of suction, but the attachments aren't good for cleaning the carpet in my 'pad'. Not to mention, I think I lost all of the attachments for it when I moved out here from FL, or were they already missing before then. hmmmmmmmmm...

So, I finally bought a Eureka on Black Friday for $35. It's not the best vacuum in the world, but it DOES have a rotating brush (necessary for the carpet) that can be disengaged to vacuum the linoleum entry way and marble flooring in the bathroom, but it's worthless for anything else (no attachments). Since it was only $35, I'm not mad about it.

Besides, I have 2 Dirt Devils for hitting the areas that the Eureka can't reach or think about cleaning due to the lack of attachments.
 
I just pawned off our Kirby after 31 years of regular use!
It never, never broke down!

Bought an Oreck because it is mostly made in the USA. Also, David is a very generous man when it comes to philanthropy.

/bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/lol.gif I did a brief stint trying to sell those door-to-door in my college days (How I found out I was <u>NOT</u> a salesman!). They are a great vaccuum! Boy they do just about everything except make coffee for you in the morning and drive you to work!!! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

Not my picture, but yes, it looks like The Bridge to me too.
I also saw Hall's cars there in their heyday, including this particular car.
This year at the Grassroots Challenge $2007, someone built an old 'Vette using this principle.

When my Dad was a young man in Ireland, he sold vacuums door-to-door. Once in a while, he'd try to sell to folks who didn't have electricity. Told the people that if they bought the vacuum, the power company would feel obligated to bring power to their area. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/jester.gif
 
I always thought the only place the Chapperral "sucker car" ran was Watkins Glen, but knowing my limited knowlage of racing history, I'm probably wrong.
I agree in asmuch as that pic does not look like Watkins. Very cool!
P.S. Eureka Pet liftoff upright here. does a good job.
Nothing I've had beats the old Electrolux canister my mom had. That thing really Sucked!
