New Triumph owner

Welcome aboard eejay. As you can already see, they people here are extremely helpful. Good Luck getting things sorted out.

You people are great. Thanks for the warm welcome and all the info. Buying and insuring the car pretty much blew out my car budget for this month so I can't buy any parts until the first but I swapped the Honda coil into it for a temp fix/test. A new coil, cap, rotor, condensor and plug wires top my shopping list (which grows daily, last night the knob broke off of the passenger side window crank.)Now I need to drive it for a while and see if I get stranded again.

...Reverse is vertical,right,forward. It's a 4 speed no OD.

[/ QUOTE ]OK, then it's probably a "correct" for the year "single-rail" gearbox. I'd be inclined to agree with Alan that there could be some interrelataion between the 1st gear problem and the clutch situation.
