Anyone have some great advice on how to remove the old "blind fixes" to replace the chrome letters with new ones--without damaging the paint? It's awfully tedious work, and so far I'm not exactly happy with the result. Do they make a specia tool to pop those letters out of the "fixes?" thx
 
I usually use the plasttic strapping that comes wrappes around heavy boxes. Slide it under and yank.
 
I like the strap idea. Another good tool can be found at an autobody supply store. It's the nylon stick, or "paddle" tool used by windshield installers. They are pretty stiff for prying, have a tapered end that would get under the letters, and are plastic so they won't scratch the paint. Oh yea, and they're fairly cheap too.
 
I've used a paddle, or bone tool, as well as a stained glass artists WIS tool. Be very careful not to use it by pulling out on the trim, don't use it as a lever against the sheet metal. I've had sheetmetal crease very slightly.
 
Go to Lowe's, Home Depot, or anywhere that gets heavy deliveries and ask someone back on the loading docks for some, they throw it out all the time.
 
Of course on a TR4A those 'blind fixes' aren't really blind as you can more or less get to the backside of all of them. I just coax them off working from front and back though I like the strapping idea.

Mine had some gray modeling clay glopped over them... looked pretty cheesy. I then found out that this was original -- a grey plasticene was used over the blind fix -- so I saved it and put it back on when I reinstaled them.
