Hi all, my name is Mike and I'm new to this forum. I very much appreciate the opportunity to read your comments regarding issues that come up in maintaining my car and any help that I may be able to give. I've got a TR-3B that's in need of some TLC starting with new tires. After some research, I'm inclined to buy Nexen 165/80R15 for my original wire wheels. Can anyone tell me if you can use tubes with these tubeless tires? And following that, where to buy dependable tubes?

Short answer is yes, you can. But your tire shop may refuse to install them that way.

The tubes cause extra heat within the tire, which can lead to failure if the tire is operated near its limits of load and speed. Used to be the tire makers would publish the derating information, but they don't any more. However, the TR3 is light enough that it should not be a problem, you won't get anywhere close to the weight rating of the tire.

Sorry, I can't help with "dependable" tubes. All of my local stores have quit carrying high speed tubes (and you don't want agricultural tubes). But I see that Summit Racing has "street" tubes from both Coker (good rep but expensive) and Carlisle Tire (never heard of them, but probably OK).

I see Moss offers tubes but I have no experience with them:

Instead of rim bands I use PVC tape from the plumbing department at Ace Hardware.

"Welcome" to the BCF.

I had a `57TR3 just a few months ago undergoing a Nut & Bolt Resto. It has since been sold & my "Toy Car" is my current avatar.

If History repeats itself; I`ll be back in the saddle of an LBC in short time.

Anyways; You`ve already got your answers to the "Tire & Tube" thing. I too had the same tires & tubes that I bought from a local "SC" shop (Allgood Tires) in Anderson. They mounted them for me & I also put wrapped the inside of the rim with some elec. tape. Worked just fine.

By now; I`m sure you`ve introduced yourself to all the nice folks in the "Triumph" section.

Good advice Randall. You're right about tire shops refusing to install tubes. I was surprised at the number of places that had never even seen a wire wheel. Geo, if that's what they will look like, I'll be very happy when they are installed. BTW is that the same Mt Lemmon near Tucson? I bought my first TR-3 there in 67 and used to race up to Mt Lemmon.

Greetings and welcome. My first car was a red 62 TR-3B so it's great to see another car being taken care of. I was the 13th owner and what I found as I went along was sitcom worthy.
