Been having a ball today playing with some new video editing software for my iMac. It's sort of an early Christmas present to myself. I've been playing around with it to make some "forum tutorials" which I'm posting in the Forum Navigation and Help forum. Here's the latest. Check out the grand opening to the video:

Basil - that "Skype-ish" picture in picture is interesting, but I'm not sure it helps for the tutorial itself.

Also, it may be my connection and/or hardware, but that ScreenFlow screen shot seems a bit fuzzy and jerky, and the pointer (arrow) moves *really* fast. If someone is new to the classified idea (or whatever), I'd think the slower the better.

One thing I remember from my network admin days: what looks good on your local machine may *not* look good after zapping across the 'net. Local machines, especially local "movies", are always a lot faster than browsers on the receiving end. Remember the "snow fall" animation we used to have here, which slowed down a lot of users' screens.

Just my two cents. Have fun with the toys!

Appreciate the feedback. The truth is, the Picture-in-picture (or video-in-video) capability is the main feature of the software and actually the main reason I just bought it. I'd be really bummed if I didn't use it (I already made videos without it using existing software I have). I guess it's just personal preference, but I felt it personalized the videos and is a very common technique you see on Youtube. May not be everyone's cup of tea, but there you go.

You're right about the jerkyness - I have learned that happens when I scroll the screen too fast, or use certain animation features while recording. These videos are "Flash" and hosted on my own site. I can also export directly to YouTube. The exported videos are optimized for web use, but I'm still learning the limitations. I'll probably re-do these first attempts as I get better using the program.
 
"Stick time" is about the only way to figure it out. Try a bunch of stuff. We'll Guinea-pig it!
