New Toy, and it's not a TR-2!!

I am still waiting for the guy to call me on this barn stored TR-2. In the meantime, last Friday I flew down to New Bern NC and bought a car I've lusted after since I was 18. It's not British however, a 1967 Dodge Charger, all original one owner. Since I've finished the TR-6, I need another project! Ha! If I ever get to see this TR-2, I'll let y'all know in case anyone here is interested in it.

Thanks,

Mark
1970 TR-6 (and a Mopar)

cool. Which engine does the charger have?

Awesome Mark, a Mopar. There are a few Mopars I'd love to have, a Challenger being tops amoung them. I looked at a 68 Charger many moons ago, first year of the redesign. Had a 383, but the entire top half of the motor was missing and nearly the entire drivers side, from stem to stern, was plastered with bondo. Plus I got stung by wasps when i tried to get the trunk lid open, they had a nest in the lock cylinder hole, which was missing. I didn't walk from that one, I ran.

PICS!!!!

and some details.....

This is a one owner, 104K dark blue with blue interior, white vinyl top 1967 Charger. It is complete down to the original hubcaps. It has factory AC, PS, PB and a 318 with the console automatic tranny. The only major body part that needs replacing is the trunk floor..it is shot! The frame rails, torsion bars, floor pans, are like new! It has never been messed with, and altho it needs a complete restoration, all the chrome is there, the bumpers are straight, and the car has never been hit. No bondo either! The engine compartment has all of the original wiring harness still intact, no DPO splicing! I'm looking forward to doing the same kind of work I did on my TR-6, altho I'm sure restoration parts will be harder to come by, and pretty expensive. A new tail light lens assembly is 525 bucks..let the fun begin! I'll post some pictures as soon as I get it home.

Yeah, I think certain parts will be big bucks. My experience over the years with Detroit iron and restoration parts (body panels, trim, etc.) has been that GM stuff (with the exception of the Corvette) was the cheapest, Ford items were somewhere in the middle, and Mopars seemed to be the most expensive. Be glad it's a 318, parts for them are easy to get and not to expensive since they built that motor for so long. If it was a big block or, even worse, a hemi it would cost a fortune to rebuild. The 318's a great little engine to, my buddy had one in his 72 Cuda and his Dodge van. Sounds like a nice solid car to, mind if I ask what you paid for it?

$1800.00 including a new gas tank (the original has some trash in it). I thought that was a very fair price!

Hi, What a great deal. One of my favorite pieces of Detroit iron. But why did the trunk go bad?

Sounds like you got a good deal Mark, for a solid complete car $1800 isn't bad at all. We you able to drive it home?

Yeah I'm curious about the trunk also. No other significant rust on the car, maybe there was a bad seal around the lid and water was getting in? How are the trunk drops and lower quarter panel areas, or is the rust restricted to the trunk floor only?

Mark,
I happened to be cruising the Triumph Forum & noticed you are from Fairport, NY. Just wondered if you go the the Grand Prix Festivals @ Watkins Glen every September. We have been going it started. Only missed one year, darn work got in the way.
If your there let us know & we'll look for you. We are bringing the Big Healey for the first time this year. (Wife says "Finally" after 3 years of work.) If the gremlins pop up on the Healey we still have the tried & true Triumph to drive.

Happy Motoring.

The trunk seal probablly went bad, and the car sat outside for quite awhile in NC. I'm sure water in the trunk did it in. Had a fun time bringing it home; about 400 miles into the 700 mile trip the left rear axle bearing failed (at 65 MPH) and we had to stop and switch the car around on the dolly and pull it backwards. Anything past 40MPH and the car wanted to swap ends on the tow dolly! Turned a 12 hour trip home into 18 hours, but she is home and once the TR-6 show season is over, I'll start taking her apart. I'm figuring 3 years to get it back on the road, about the same as my 6. BTW, I won't be able to attend the Watkins Glen Festival this year, but maybe next.
