I tried posting a properly-sized picture, it gave me some long error message.
I'll try again.
You know, all these years I told folks I'd love to own a Jag, but when I was working on cars for a living, I could not afford the time to maintain one.
A little over 8-1/2 years ago, some moron who didn't understand the mandate of a "STOP" sign kind of stopped that.
This car, well, paint it needs....peeling in places.
Rock solid underneath.
Spare tyre well, dry and solid, floor pan, dry and solid.
Had AC, put in when the car was in Singapore, yanked that out, today put the two acorn nuts and a couple of "D" washers when I removed the last two standoffs for the AC.
Got all the heater control bits yesterday, glass beaded this morning and painted.
Will hang tomorrow sometime.
I HATE to see cars that some bozo in a gas station figured he'd prove what a British Car Mechanic he was.
The coil brackets on the front of the cylinder head were gone.
Coil mounted UNDER the fuel filter.
The vertical inner air cleaner bracket was gone, so they pulled the choke line bracket off the rear two head studs and mounted it in the center, with a homemade bracket looping up at an angle.
The heater control valve was a joke.
One of those in-line units, plugged solid.
Got the right "tap" and it works now.
RR door hadn't opened in 20 years.
Rest of the doors had stiff or inoperable window regulators, and very stiff latches.
Mostly congealed grease.
Finished the last door Saturday.
All windows and doors work fine.
Putting in rear vent window seals, and put a "correct" operato on the RR.
The one on it was off some other model Jag, wouldn't hold the wing shut tight.
Aftermarket radio in the parcel shelf, with a nice leather-covered piece of wood to mount it.
The scuttle vent therefore hadn't opened in 20 years.
Does now!
Got an oil leak of the back of the exhaust cam (small), probably have to run the valves at some point.
Had RN9YC Champions in it, British market 2.4's need N-5's.
Took the "ping" away when hot when I fixed that.
No thermostat AT ALL.
Now, I probably need to get the correct one to shut off the bypass, but it stays where I need it at 82C with a 180° unit, so I'm happy.
My OLD Stant catalogue gave me a part number for Jag thermostats.......looked familiar.....flipped over to the Flathead Ford section....same number, part on the shelf, gasket on the peg on the wall.....
Ah, well.
