Hello, I'm a new member of the forum. I've always enjoyed British cars, my first one being a 1964 Triumph TR4, some 32 years ago. Through necessity, it taught me many of my mechanical and repair skills that I carry with me to this day.

I've some experience with TR-6s, Sprites, and Sunbeam Tigers, my favorite being the Tiger.

I just bought an original 1-owner, 18,000 mile 1980 MGB a few weeks ago from a woman
here in my home town, so I'm sure some questions will pop up regarding it. It was a
California purchase originally, then within a year they moved to Washington state, then
within another year, moved to Indiana where it saw only limited use for the past 22
years. It is completely rust-free, and runs great. Would anyone in the forum know what
would be a reasonable price for such a specimen? (It's already purchased and paid, so
it's probably a moot point, but I'm curious as to whether I paid a fair price.)

Anyway, this is probably too much information for everyone, but this forum sounds like fun. Thanks to Basil for his hospitality, and I look forward to being a part of the forum.

Hi Jay, welcome aboard!! I too have a low-mileage 1980 MGB, just covered 25K. I am the third owner, and it has always been a local car to Southeast Wisconsin......hence the low mileage.

To give some indication as to the value, my last MGB was a '79, higher miles, an ex-Arizona car that had been restored, but not fully (interior needed completing) and it was involved in a wreck. The insurance company totalled it, and offered me just over 10,000. I took their offer! Realistically though, you might be in the high sevens to low eights for this car.....what did you pay for it? I have seen nice examples with low miles in this price range.....even higher in the spring.

Welcome to the forum! If you were willing to pay the purchase price, and the seller was willing to give it up for that, then all is well. Don't start second guessing yourself right off the bat! Lot's of MG's available for sale on ebay so you can look there and get some idea, but I would never buy something like that on a long distance basis. You've seen the car and driven it so you should know some of it's shortcomings, if any. Lot's of good information here, so feel free to ask. Enjoy your new acquisition!

Congrats on purchasing a nice MG, you're going to love it.

Most collector car pricing is subject to lots of variables, including your geographic location and the relative availability of the particular model/make of your car.

Check this website out, it may provide some pricing insight for you: https://www.collectorcartraderonline.com/

Also, check the Hemmings website and do a google search for MGs. But, as Frazier noted, since you've already bought it, just enjoy it (and I'm sure you will!).

Also, keep us informed of your restoration efforts. There's a lot of great help here.

never think about what a hobby costs you, if you enjoy it. it's worth it. welcome aboard

Don't worry about the price now...just think of it as you are cruising and everything will be fine...but there are hints in your post like you got a deal.

An old saying from boating that surely fits here is "the two happiest days in a person's life is the day he buys a LBC and the day he sells it!"

Enjoy and good luck!

Yeah, but the cost of boating makes the selling much happier!

Congratulations on your new purchase. Have fun!

Welcome JayS...

It is nice to see a new member so close to me. I joined the forum last fall and have had a lot of fun reading and posting. I also received some excellent advice on my Jaguar issues. I no longer own an MG, but I do plan on purchasing another someday soon. Sounds like you bought an excellent example, 1980 being the last year, and a rust-free original low mileage car at that. My guess would be near $10,000 in these parts. Salty winter roads make cars like yours a rare find around here.

Anyway, welcome and make this snow go away so you can have some topless fun!
