Real racing has nothing to do with cars....
(Well almost nothing \:G )

That may be... but my main interest in racing is the cars so....
One of the interesting personality differences between me and my dad... when we go to races in Monterey, he always likes a high viewpoint where he can see the strategy of the race, know who's in what position etc.
I always like to be as close as I can get to the track so I can see individual cars, hear the sounds and smells... I really couldn't care less who wins/loses.

So for me to go racing, the real point is for me to have an excuse to have a cool car and a place to drive it.

I have to ask as well, what do you all think of starting with a vintage bugeye sprite? I have a 68 Sprite and a 66 Healey 3000 as road cars and have tracked my 2005 CTS-V the last 2 years.

I spent a few days camping at Road America 2 weeks ago watching the Brian Redmund races and really want to pull the trigger. I want to use a vintage car and I want to use something that is British..the cheap side has led me to a bunch of sprites but I wonder if anybody here has raced one...I could care less about being the fastest on the track.

Any thoughts...?

Although I don't race, I live close to Topeka, home of SCCA and the Nationals, and count alot of friends as racers. It sounds to me like you are ready to make a step toward racing and really enjoy it with your family. What I see is that racing takes quite a bit of time and money, but past that there are a great group of people you'll make as friends because they all share the same passion. It takes alot of people to stage these races, and if you start helping as a corner worker, in tech inspection, or anyplace else you will learn more than the cost of time spent.

I am definitely planning to attend both Watkins Glen and Lime Rock vintage events in September. Going to try to make it to Pocono next weekend, but we'll see how that plays out.
Who else here is planning to be at these events? Any sort of BCF "meet and greet" going on?
My first trip to Monterey Historics I met up with some folks from the Jag-Lovers forums, which turned out to be very informative to have someone there to show me around the track etc. As a bonus the guy I was with that day had done Skip Barber at Laguna Seca so he was able to comment on the driving side of the track as well as the spectator side.

I'm entered at Lime Rock Vintage Festival in class G-1. I'll be at Grattan, MI for the VSCDA event this weekend--it looks like a very challenging track from the videos I've found on YouTube.

Elva Courier #82 white with red stripes(see avatar picture).

Well, went to SCCA Pocono yesterday.
Got some video, but tried twice to upload to YouTube, it says it was successful, but doesn't seem to have worked. I'm baffled... :-/
It was fun though!

I usually go to Pocono, but I don't think I am this year.

Monkeywrench, Steven Groh, #3 Spitfire, has invited me to accompany him to Watkins Glen.

Now I have to decide if I can afford to go!

I enjoyed the races at Pocono. A schedule of what classes were running when would have been nice (we got there too late to see the production classes). Some good racing though!

For something just a bit different consider coming to the Lime Rock Vintage Festival August 31-September 3. For a schedule of events go here:

https://www.limerockfallfestival.com/event/schedule.html

There's great racing on Friday, Saturday and Monday and a fabulous show on Sunday. I'll be in Group 5.

John,

Do what you can to get to WGI in Sept. The HSR race in June isn't even close to the SVRA event. It's well worth it...

Just check out the entries as of today

Wow. Looks like a great turn-out.

I told Steve I can't afford to go, but he is looking into providing accomodations and a ride up and back for me.

He seems to think my knowledge and advice on racing is worth putting up with my company! HAH! Go figure...

Maybe see you there...
